“Dinner With Family” by Megan Smith

So a couple weeks ago, I realized I never had a chance to post step by steps for any of my November kit layouts. So here's one - better late than never!

1. Gather your supplies: Crop Addict November 2010 Monthly Kit, Crop Addict November 2010 Monthly Kit Option, three photos (one 5½” x 4”, one 4” x 3”, one 3¼” x 2½”), border punch, green embroidery floss, a white gel pen, brown marker and various adhesives.
2. Use the tan cardstock as your base. Trim a piece of the multi-colored striped paper to 4” x 12” so the stripes run horizontally. Adhere this piece of paper along the left side of your layout. Then, trim a piece of the red with brown and yellow polka dots paper to 3¼” x 12” and adhere it directly to the right and flush against the edge of the striped paper.
3. Cut a 1” thick, 12” long strip of the dark brown paper, border punch one edge of it, and adhere it along the seam between the two patterned papers, with the punched edge facing left.
4. Mount the 5½” x 4” photo on a piece of the dark brown paper trimmed to 5¾” x 4¼” so it leaves a 1/8” mat all the way around the photo. Adhere this matted photo to the layout so it’s ¾” from the right edge and 2-1/8” from the top edge of the layout.
5. Adhere the 4” x 3” photo so it’s 1-3/8” from the left edge and 4” from the top edge of your layout and overlaps the larger focal photo.
6. Adhere the 3¼” x 2½” photo so it’s 2-7/8” from the left edge and 1-7/8” from the top edge of your layout and overlaps the other two photos.
7. Use the large black coaster alphas and the tiny alpha stickers to add your title to the layout so it’s directly below the grouping of photos. (If you have an “i” or “j” in your title, use one of the flower overlays to dot the letter.)
8. Cut ½” wide journaling strips from the dark brown cardstock and add your journaling to them using a white gel pen. Adhere them below your title, near the lower right corner of your layout.
9. Add a house overlay near the lower left corner of your layout.
10. Adhere one canvas chipboard flower and one die-cut flower near the lower left corner of the photo grouping. Doodle on the die-cut flower using the brown marker and embellish the canvas chipboard flower with a button flower center threaded with green embroidery floss.
11. Adhere another canvas chipboard flower and one die-cut flower near the upper right corner of the photo grouping. Doodle on the die-cut flower using the brown marker and add one of the sign language embellishments to its center.
12. Add a final die-cut flower to the lower right of your layout and adhere it so it overlaps the edge of the layout. Trim off the excess hanging off. Doodle on the die-cut flower and add the date (if desired) using the brown marker.

“Chocolate Potato Chip Cupcake” by Megan Smith

So a couple weeks ago, I realized I never had a chance to post step by steps for any of my November kit layouts. So here's one - better late than never!

1. Gather your supplies: Crop Addict November 2010 Monthly Kit, Crop Addict November 2010 Monthly Kit Option, two photos (one 8” x 6” and one 3” x 3”), silver and green alcohol ink, crystal Stickles, white embroidery floss, coordinating paint in three colors, dimensional glaze, a white gel pen, StazOn ink and various adhesives.
2. Using the three paint colors and dimensional adhesive, alter two paisley chipboard pieces and four of the small chipboard circles. Set aside to dry.
3. Thread and tie a bow through one of the buttons with embroidery floss, adhere to a die-cut flower and embellish the flower with Stickles. Set aside to dry.
4. Cut out the word “Cupcake,” the whisk and the cupcake from the My Little Shoebox overlay. Color the word “Cupcake” with green alcohol ink and the whisk and cupcake with the silver alcohol ink. Set aside to dry.
5. Use the light green cardstock as your base. Trim the blue doodled scallop paper to 11” x 9” and adhere it to the green cardstock so it’s ½” from the top, left and right edges of your cardstock.
6. Trim the pink cupcake-patterned paper to 9½” x 8”. Cut freehand scallops around both 8” long edges and one of the 9½” long edges of this sheet of paper. Adhere it so it’s about 1¼” from the top, left and right edges of your layout.
7. Mount your large focal photo on an 8¼” x 6¼” sheet of the pink striped paper, leaving a 1/8” photo mat around the edge of the photo. Adhere your matted photos so it’s 2-7/8” from the top edge and 1-7/8” from both the left and right edges of your layout.
8. Cut a piece of the brown subtle polka dot patterned paper to 12” x 3”. Adhere this piece of paper along the bottom section of your layout so it overlaps the bottom part of your photo.  Adhere a 12” piece of the brown and pink ribbon as a border between the brown paper and your photo.
9. Mount your small photo on a 3¼” x 3¼” sheet of the pink striped paper, leaving a 1/8” photo mat around the edge of the photo. Adhere it at an angle in the lower left corner of your layout. Use foam adhesive if desired for added dimension.
10. Trim three paper strips – one from the white with pink polka dot paper that’s 5/8” wide and 3¾” long, and two from the brown with multi-colored polka dot paper that are both 5/8” wide and one 5” long and the other 3” long. These strips will be used in two embellishment clusters.
11. Create one embellishment cluster towards the lower left corner of the large focal photo using the 5” long paper strip, the embellished die-cut flower, the whisk overlay, one paisley chipboard piece and the small chipboard circle pieces.
12. Create a second embellishment cluster near the upper right corner of the large focal photo using the remaining two paper strips, the second chipboard paisley and the cupcake overlay.
13. Add your title to the upper left corner of your photo using the Hero Arts alpha stamps with StazOn ink and the word “Cupcake” overlay.
14. Attach the three jumbo snaps in a line in the lower right corner of the layout.
15. Add your journaling to the right of the small photo using the white gel pen.

Weekly Challenge Dec. 27th-31st

I know this week is a bit shorter, but I bet you amazing ladies can pull this off! This is what I am going to do. For all who have participated in ANY of my challenges this month, weekly and monthly, you will be put into a drawing for a scrappy rack from me. The more challenges you participated in the more times you will be put it! YAY! So, here is the last weekly challenge!

Home for the Holidays

 
 
 

1. Cut a 5x7 frame from white cardstock and use a decorative border punch around the outside edge. Mount a 4x6 photo onto mat.
2. Cut a 4x8 strip of green pattern paper, a 2x10 strip of red with white dots, and a 1x12” strip of diagonal stripes papers. Use an edge distresser on the edges of each piece.
3. Layer the green, then the red with white dots, and then the diagonal strips towards the top left corner of the page
4. Use the decorative scalloped circle included with the kit for your journaling and adhere the circle transparency over the top. Add just below the green paper.
5. Adhere your photo and mat over the layers of papers. Add a chipboard piece for a title and a brad over the right side of your photo.
6. Use two chipboard tags and hang with baker’s twine (NOT included in the kit), from the top right of the page.
7. In the lower left, layer a strip of diagonal stripes paper cut with decorative scissors and a chipboard house.
8. Using a snowflake punch, punch multiple snowflakes from white cardstock and layer around your page. Add a dab of stickles or some brads to the center of each.

Our First Christmas by Audrey Yeager

 
 

 

“Our First Christmas”
1. Cut the following from patterned paper: red houndstooth-5x8”, red with cream flower pattern-3x6”, multi colored stripe: 1 ½ x 12”, and green houndstooth-1/2” x 12”. Distress the edges of each paper.
2. Layer the red hound’s-tooth, and then the red with cream print towards the left side of the page oriented vertically.
3. Add the dark green strip, and the multi-stripes piece about 2” up from the bottom of the red hound’s-tooth going across the page.
4. Distress the gift tag cards with brown inks and crumple to give and aged effect. Layer behind where photo will go.
5. Add rub-ons to different areas of the page, overlapping papers and the journaling cards.
6. Cut a circle and punch a flower shape from patterned paper and layer for flower centers. Use a brad in the middle (not included with kit). Layer the largest flower behind the photo, and medium one over the journaling cards, and the smallest one in the top right corner.

"December 25th" by Megan Smith

1. Gather your supplies: Crop Addict December 2010 Monthly Kit, Crop Addict December 2010 Monthly Kit Option, five photos (one 2¼” x  2”, one 3” x 2”, one 2” x 2”, one 3¾” x 3” and one 4” x 3”), scrap of tan cardstock, white mini brads, pink embroidery floss, red and white Stickles, a black journaling pen, a border punch, a Cuttlebug embosser & template and various adhesives.
2. Use the light blue cardstock as your base.  Using your pink embroidery floss, stitch a straight-line border around the outside of your layout, about a ¼” from the edge of your layout.
3. Adhere your photos to your layout. Place the 4” x 3” photo ½” from the right edge and 1¼” from the bottom edge of your layout. Next, place the 3 ¾” x 3” photo ¼” from the left edge of the 4” x 3” photo and 1¼” from the bottom edge of your layout. Next, place the 2” x 2” photo within the small green chipboard frame and adhere it 3½” from the top edge and ½” from the right edge of your layout. Adhere the 3” x 2” photo 1/8” from the left edge of the chipboard frame and 3½” from the top edge of your layout. Next, adhere the 2¼” x 2” photo ¼” from the left edge of the 3” x 2” photo and 3½” from the top edge of your layout. .
4. Embellish the chipboard frame with a holly rub-on and holiday sentiment (which will serve as the layout title). Dot the holly rub-on with red Stickles.
5. Create two border strips to place between the two lines of photos. Trim a 8” long, ¾” wide strip from the Dream Street Paper (DSP) pink snowflake paper and a 5-5/8” long, ½” wide (border-punch one edge) strip from the DSP white flowered paper. Adhere the white flowered strip (border-punched edge down) so it’s ends are in line with and about ¼” below the top line of photos. Adhere the pink snowflake strip so it’s ends are in line with and about ¼” above the bottom line of photos.
6. Create your Christmas tree. Cut five non-perfect triangles of varying sizes ranging from 2½” to 4½” wide from the green criss-cross/green with red polka dots double-sided DSP paper. Adhere these triangles from largest to smallest going up the left side of your layout, leaving space at the bottom for your tree trunk. The triangles should overlap each other and should be slightly angled for added visual interest. Cut a “tree trunk” from the scrap of tan cardstock and run it through the Cuttlebug embosser. Adhere it to the bottom of the tree. Add a Basic Grey chipboard ornament to the ends of each triangle on your tree and a chipboard star to the top of the tree. Add white mini-brads to any of the chipboard ornaments that have a hole in the top of them. Add white Stickles to the star and a few of the ornaments.
7. Fussy cut one snowman, one reindeer, one hat and one pair of mittens from the Winter Wonderland DSP paper. Adhere the reindeer near the lower left corner of the chipboard frame and adhere the snowman to the left of your tree trunk. Add the mittens and the hat to the snowman (use foam adhesive for added dimension). Add red Stickles to the snowman’s scarf and reindeer’s nose and add whit Stickles to the snowman’s hat.

“Christmas Blessings” by Megan Smith

1. Gather your supplies: Crop Addict December 2010 Monthly Kit, Crop Addict December 2010 Monthly Kit Option, seven photos (two 5” x 3”, two 3½” x 3”, one 4” x 3”, two 3” x 3”), a large black button, red embroidery floss, black StazOn ink, a black journaling pen, silver Glimmer Mist, a border punch, 1½” and 1¼” diameter circle punches, a corner rounder punch and various adhesives.
2. Use the two sheets of red embossed cardstock as your base.
3. Cut a 5¼” x 12” piece from the Little Yellow Bicycle (LYB) green Night Before Christmas paper and adhere it to the far left side of your layout.
4. Cut two 1” wide strips from the LYB light green with small circles paper. Border punch on side of each strip and trim one strip down to 10¾” long. Adhere the 12” long strip directly to the right of the Night Before Christmas with the punched border facing right.  Adhere the 10 ¾” long piece near the upper right of your layout, punched border facing up, touching the right edge and about 2-1/8” from the top of your layout.
5. Corner punch all the corners of your photos and then ink the edges of your photos with black StazOn ink.
6. Adhere your photos to your layout in a 4 x 2 grid style fashion on your layout, so that the bottom row of photos is 2-1/8” from the bottom edge of your layout and each photo has a 3/8” margin between them. Adhere the two 5” x 3” photos on the left page of your layout, 3/8” from the punched edge of the paper border. Then adhere the two 3½” x 3” photos on the right page, 3/8” from the center edge of your layout. Next, adhere the one 4” x 3” photo along the top row, 3/8” from the other photo. The space below this 4” x 3” photo will be reserved for the journaling block. Finally, adhere the two 3” x 3” photos 3/8” from the edge of your layout.
7. Create the journaling block by first spraying one of the chipboard tags with silver Glimmer Mist. Next, trim a piece of light green lined LYB so it’s slightly smaller than the tag. Punches the corners of this piece of paper with your corner rounder punch and then ink the edges with black StazOn ink. Add your journaling with the black journaling pen and then adhere it to the tag. Adhere the tag to your layout 3/8” below the 4” x 3” photo, in line with the bottom row of photos.
8. Thread the black button with red embroidery floss and adhere the button to the center of a large red flower.
9. Punch six paper circles (three 1½” diameter and three 1¼” diameter) from various scraps of LYB papers. Adhere a Crossed Path round sentiment sticker to each of the 1½” diameter circles.
10. Create two embellishment clusters on your layout. The first should be near the lower left corner of the bottom 5” X 3” photo.  Use the large red flower,  two 1½” circles, one 1¼” circle, one holly embellishment and two snowflake rub-ons (dotted in the center with a gem) for this cluster. The second cluster is in the upper right corner of your layout and consists of one 7Gysies journaling tag, the remaining three paper punched circles, one holly embellishment and one snowflake rub-on (dotted in the center with a gem).
11. Using your Thickers and LYB rub-on sentiments, add your title to the layout directly above the top 5” x 3” photo. Embellish the title with two snowflake rub-ons (dotted in the center with a gem).

Celebrating Christmas

I love layering, so  here is one I did with the December kit and I will tell you how to do this yourself!

All supplies are from the December 2010 Kit

1. Choose your background paper.

2. To make your layout have a snowy effect, just add a little white paint to various parts of your background paper.

3. Cut a doily out using a die cutting machine, template or do it the old fashioned way and cut out a snowflake (you know, like you learned in 1st grade).  Adhere the doily/snowflake to the bottom left side of your layout.

4. Pick your next patterned paper and cut it to the desired size.  This is your first layer.  I roughed up the edges and crumbled it up and them smoothed it out.  I then used pop dots to adhere it.  Put this piece near the upper right side of your layout.

5. Then I used the small tag from the kit, tied a ribbon on it and added some glitter glue around the edges.  I then cut another tag out with my die cutting machine and placed on top of the white on found in your kit.  This goes on top of the first layer near the upper right hand side.

6. Next, pick another patterned paper.  This one will be much smaller.  I placed this one on top of the first layer and adhered it using more pop dots.  With this one, I just inked the sides.

7. Pick another color of patterned paper.  This one, will again, be smaller than the first layer put down.  I roughed the edges up, crumbled it and then flattened it out.  After that I inked the top of it where all of the wrinkles were.  I used some more pop dots to adhere it.

8. I then matted the picture and used even more pop dots.  I placed it on top of the third layer of patterened paper.

8. I cut the frame for the title out with my die cutting machine using the patterned paper from my kit.  I framed the outside with glitter glue and them cut out the title using my die cutting machine.  This was popped up too using pop dots an put in the upper right hand corner.

9. I cut out flowers from my die cutting machine in different sizes and layered them.  I placed one underneath the picture and one to the left of the picture.  I used the silk flower from the kit (the red one) and placed next to the other two flowers, forming a triangle.  The two die cut flowers were adhered using pop dots.

10. I created the title from Word and cut it out and popped it up, placing it below the picture.

11. Next I placed the chipboard leaves (found in your kit), next to the title and the die cut flower on the left side.

Have fun with this one!  It is a lot of layers, but looks so good!

 

 

 

December kit "So Fun"

Today I’m going to explain how I created my quick and easy layout “So Fun” using the December 2010 Monthly Scrapbooking kit.

 

1. Gather your supplies: Crop Addict December 2010 Monthly Scrapbooking Kit, a 4 x 4.5 inch color photo and a 2.5 x 3 inch color photo, some buttons and thread and adhesives.

2. Use the light blue Bazzill “Starmist” sheet as your base and attach the pink Dream Street Paper “Sparkle” on top, leaving a small border on all sides.

3. Cut 3 thin (approx. 0.5 inch) strips from your Dream Street Papers: 2x Magical Moments (flowers one side, red dotted other side) and 1x from Sentiments (striped). Two of them are 7 inches long and one is 2.5 inch long. And 1 broad strip (1.5 inch) from the Magical Moments sheet, approx. 8.5 inch long.

4. Cut two rectangles from your Dream Street Papers (Magical Moments and Sentiments) the width of your photos.

5. Mat your photos on some white Bazzill (or print them with a white border).

6. Attach the papers and the photos to your layout as shown in the photo.

7. Attach buttons to the left and right side of your broad strip of paper.

8. Adhere pink journaling card on top of the broad strip of paper.

9. Cut the chipboard snowflake in half and attach one part on top of the pink journaling card and one part on the right side of your right photo.

10. Adhere journaling to the top left rectangle of paper.

11. Add title; divide over the two rectangles of paper.

12. Add some chipboard elements.

13. Add rub-ons to both your photos (1 corner rub-on in each) and one to the lowest rectangle of paper.
