August 23rd-30th Weekly Challenge

Tribute to Picasso!

Your challenge this week is simple - as a tribute to Picasso and all the other famous artists that have graced the Earth with their presence, you must use paint on your layout. It can be used in any way you want, but it does need to be noticeable on your layout. And for added fun, let's see a bit of fussy cutting too.

Here is my example - I splattered yellow paint all over the background of my layout and fussy-cut the border running along the left side of the photo strip. 

 

 

August 16th-23rd Weekly Challenge

Stitch It!

Stitching is a great way to add just a touch of detail to a layout, giving it a finished look. Your challenge this week is to stitch a frame around the border of your layout. Hand stitching or machine stitching is fine, but it has to be real stitching, no faux stitching.

Here is my example. I stitched an orange embroidery floss border around the edge of the whole artisan shaped background paper. 

 

 

Beach Bum

I decided to use the "other" meaning of the word "bum" for this summery LO using the August Kit!  :)

Here are the instructions to make this page:

1. Cut a circle from the light blue paper about 6” in diameter and scallop the edges by hand. Use a white pen to outline the inside edges of the scallops.
2. Use the text paper and cut a circle about 5-5 ½” in diameter and adhere to the large blue scallop circle. Glue this to the left side of the coral colored cardstock.
3. Add two, 2x3” photos on the scalloped circle. Doodle around the photos with a thin black pen.
4. Cut a 2” x 8” strip from the sand colored paper with dots. Also cut the large brown dot strip from the strips paper and cut it to a 9” length. From the card phrases paper, cut a length of the brown stripes from the “Sandy Smiles” card. Distress the edges of each strip. Glue the sand colored strip, then the large dot strip, and then the striped strip over the bottom edges of the photos.
5. For the embellishment in the top right, use a label shaped punch to punch out a piece from the stickers sheet. Cut a piece of white cardstock to fit inside the label, and use the “beach bum” phrase from the rub on sheets for the title.
6. Use the peach colored cardstock and cut four stars of various sizes, the largest being abour 2 ½”. Use the tutorial FOUND HERE to score and fold the stars to make them a bit 3D. Use some light creamy brown ink on the edges of the stars.
7. Use the green paper and cut out four “branches” from the paper. On the strips paper, cut out four pieces of the green vine.
8. On the strips paper, cut out the blue and peach colored flowers.
9. Cut the “Who” “What” “Where” “When” tabs from the strips paper and adhere over sand colored small dot paper.
10. Create the embellishment clusters as shown. Add a metal bottle cap to left hand cluster and metal tag to bottom right cluster.

 

August 9th-16th Weekly Challenge

Circles: 3 Ways!

I am totally into circles in my scrapbooking right now. I love how this simple shape can add so much to a layout. So, for this week's challenge, let's see some circles!

Your challenge is to use circles on your layout in three different ways.

Here is my example. On this layout, I (1) cut my supporting photos into circles for added visual interest, (2) punched circles in the bottom border of my page and (3) punched circles from scraps of the wave patterned paper and overlayed them with foam adhesive on the patterned paper on my layout for added dimension.

 

 

"Escape" By Guiseppa Gubler August 2010 Kit

Gather your supplies: August 2010 Crop Addict Monthly Kit, August 2010 Crop Addict Monthly Kit Option, punches or die cutting machine for clouds, flowers and orange background (or handcut orange background). I also used pop dots for demension.

1. Use the sheet of green cardstock for your base.

2. Use the green patterned paper (Carolee's Creations) and matt it on top of the green cardstock. Leave a border (from the base cardstock).

3. Adhere your orange patterned paper (Bella Blvd.) on the light green patterned paper and stitch around it. Then matt your photo on top of the orange paper.

4. Add the Carolee's Creations travel boarder along the bottom of the picture. Pop it up with pop dots.

5. Using the rub ons in your kit, rub on and cut "Escape" on the orange (Bella Blvd.) paper. Adhere it above the travel boarder using pop dots.

6. Cut out and add your clouds, popping one of them up with pop dots. I used the Bella Blvd. word paper and blue Carolee's Creations paper for the clouds.

7. Cut out flowers using Bella Blvd. flower and plaid paper and also blue Carolee's Creations paper and orange cardstock. Arrange the flowers in a cluster adding the bottle cap lid from the kit, as a flower center and the Bella Blvd. cardstock sticker as a flower center too. I also popped theses flowers using pop dots. Then add Bella blvd. sticker and Making Memories metal accent to the flower cluster.

7. I then added the journaling using my computer to print it out. Then cut the sentences out and adhered them below the travel boarder.

Have fun with this one! It was one of my favorite layouts from this kit!

Mom can we go to the water? by Monique Liedtke

If you bought this month's kit then you'll know it's GREAT to work with!! I loved every single thing and couldn't stop creating! So if you did and you need some inspiration then I have a little step-by-step tutorial for you!!

Here's one of the pages I created with the kit: "Mom can we go to the water?" (the one question my 5 year old son asked me every single minute this holiday!!).

Gather your supplies: August 2010 Crop Addict Monthly Kit, August 2010 Crop Addict Monthly Kit Option, three 3,5” x 2,5” (b/w) photos, circle template, a border punch, green scrappers floss, brown journaling pen and adhesives (including foam adhesive).

2. Use the sheet of brown cardstock as your base.

3. Tear from your piece of blue patterned paper (Adornit, Shuffle Check Blue) on each side about ¼“ and adhere to your cardstock.

4. Trim three strips of patterned paper as follows: Bella Blvd skippin’ stones, circle side: 1,5” x 10,5” Bella Blvd skippin’ stones, orange side: 1,5” x 9,75” Bella Blvd bookin’ on the beach, brown side: 1,5”x 9” and carefully tear a very little strip off the sides.

5. Next use a border punch to punch the strip of brown dotted Bella Blvd (bookin’on the beach).

6. Take your brown Adornit paper (journey defined) and a circle template and (draw and hand) cut half a circle (circle measures 8”). Then place your template a bit lower and do this again so you end up with a “strip” in the shape of a circle.

7. Adhere the (strip of the) circle to your paper as follows: the top of the circle 4” from the top of your blue background paper and 5” from the right side of your blue background paper.

8. Adhere the three strips of paper to the bottom of your page while layering them a bit on top of each other.

9. Adhere your centre photo to a photo mat, made from your sheet of Adornit “journey defined”, the greenish side.

10. Adhere your three photos to the strips of paper at a little angle.

11. Take three chipboard buttons from the “Bella Blvd Chips Badda Bings” sheet (from kit option) and tie a bit of floss (from your stash) through them.

12. Glue the buttons to the bottom of the centre photo.

13. Glue one of the Bella Blvd chipboard expressions from the “Bella Blvd Chips Badda Bings” sheet to the top of your centre photo.

14. Glue the Bella Blvd chipboard photo corners from the “Bella Blvd Chips Badda Bings” sheet on the left and right side of your series of three photos at a bit of an angle, while not touching the photos.

15. Adhere your title along the top of the circle, starting with the alpha stickers from the Bella Blvd “alphas and bits” sheet followed by the chipboard alphas from the Bella Blvd Ciao Chips Alphabet (from the kit option).

16. Adhere one of the journaling stickers from your Bella Blvd alpha & bits sticker sheet, to the left of the middle strip of paper and add hand written journaling.

17. Add chipboard star from the “Bella Blvd Chips Badda Bings” sheet to the top right corner of the journaling sticker.

18. Cut out a strip of paper with the words “travel” from the sheet Adornit excursion stripe and adhere to the top left corner of your blue background paper.

19. Adhere piece of striped chipboard from the “Bella Blvd Chips Badda Bings” sheet right under the strip of paper (mentioned under 18.)

20. Take your blue bottle cap and use a hammer to slightly flatten the sides. Glue on top of strip of paper and striped chipboard in top left corner with some double sided foam tape. And you’re done!!

"Without a Care in the World" by Amanda Winchester

1. Gather your supplies: August 2010 Crop Addict kit, 1 4x6 photo, black journaling pen, stapler, orange acrylic paint and brush. 

2. Use the Adornit Shuffle Check Blue paper as your base. 

3. Adhere your picture toward the left side of your page with the top edge of the picture at about the centre. 

4. Trim about an inch off the blue scalloped sticker from the Carolee's Creations sticker sheet and attach it to the bottom edge of your picture and centred with respect to your page.

5. Using a large plate trace a circle on the Bella Blvd Luau paper. Then trace a smaller circle inside with a smaller plate and cut on both lines giving an open circle. Attach this (checkered side up) so that it falls along the left hand side of your picture and so that your picture is slightly more toward the bottom of the circle. 

6. Adhere the journal block sticker from the Bella Blvd Blurbs to the right hand side of your picture slightly below the top edge. 

7. Cut the "Without a Care in the World" bubble from the Bella Blvd Billboards paper and attach it with staples overlapping the bottom right hand edge of your picture, the journal block and slightly outside of the circle. 

8. Punch out chipboard Bella Blvd Badda Bings "Having Fun", 2 stars and an arrow and place them in a cluster in the bottom left hand corner of your picture. 

9. Trim a short section of orange arrows from the Bits A Bella paper and adhere to the top right 'corner' of the circle. Add a couple of Badda Bings to create a cluster (I used 'smile' and a camera circle). 

10. Journal in the journal block and add faux stitches to your circle with a black journaling pen. 

11. Add brushes of orange paint randomly to your page. 

Tissue Paper Flowers

1. Gather your supplies: tissue paper, spray mist, circle punches, buttons & embroidery floss.               
2. Cut your tissue paper into strips wide enough to punch circles in.  
3. Punch circles of varying sizes in the strips of tissue paper.
4. Layer several tissue paper circles, with the smaller circles on top, add a button to the center of the top circle and attach the button and layers of tissue paper together using embroidery floss.  
5. Spray the flowers with the spray mist. Set aside to dry.  
6. Once dry, the flowers should have a crinkly look to them.  
7. Use your flowers on a project.
